The salary range represents the earning potential for this position, through training, evaluations and years spent working in this position with CCS.

About Us 

We are a community college district comprised of two accredited colleges, Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC). In addition to serving a large urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, the district provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of Lincoln County.

Both colleges of CCS are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

About the Learning Management System Administrator

The Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) is seeking an innovative, curious, and dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our eLearning department, you will report to the District Director of eLearning and play a pivotal role in advancing our mission of promoting student achievement through distance education and instructional technology.

Responsibilities include the installation and upkeep of eLearning technologies, and the resolution of system issues; assisting faculty, staff, and students while supervising the vendor’s Tier 1 support and delivering level 2 support; assessing the performance of vendor personnel and communicating detailed observations to vendor leadership; devising inventive resolutions for instructional technology challenges; analyzing usage metrics and writing comprehensive reports; and fostering a collaborative environment with fellow eLearning colleagues.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator of CCS’s learning management system (Canvas) and other eLearning supported technologies, ensuring optimal functionality for faculty, students, and staff. *
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot learning management systems utilized throughout CCS, including establishing and managing LMS technology integrations, permissions, and settings. *
  • Provide front-line support to faculty, staff, and students, addressing escalated tickets from Tier 1 support and delivering unparalleled customer service. *
  • Oversee and evaluate the work of vendor staff, maintaining relationships with vendors and advocating for CCS’s needs. *
  • Collect and analyze usage data, write reports and use findings to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Design and deliver training on eLearning technologies. *
  • Participate in professional development opportunities. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements.*
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform all related duties as required. *

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to provide primary back-end administration for CCS’s learning management system and all eLearning supported technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience providing high-level technical support and creating training content for technology tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software and expertise in learning management systems, lecture capture software, web conferencing platforms, and other instructional technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
  • Outstanding written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years experience administering a learning management system in an educational setting.
  • Experience with Canvas, Panopto, Respondus, or Zoom.
  • Experience designing and delivering training through a variety of modalities.
  • Experience working in a technology help desk role and using a ticketing system.
  • Ability to write scripts and utilize API calls to automate tasks in a learning management system.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
  • Frequent use of computers, visual focus and strain, repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Work directly with students/clients.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.

Conditions of Employment

  • Contract 12 month position.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to travel locally as well as occasional out-of-town travel.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. Once an applicant is chosen for a position, they are required to complete and submit a declaration regarding sexual misconduct and investigation per state law.

Benefits Information

This is a contracted, exempt management position. Medical, dental life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan. Vacation leave accrues at the rate of 14.67 hours per month (22 days per year) and sick leave accrues at the rate of 8 hours per month, effective upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.)
