Salary Range: $3,477 - $4,632

Starting salary for this position is: $3,477 (Monthly)

Employees hired at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. An employee hired at anything higher than the entry step of the range will have salary step advancement after 12 months and every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase.

About Us 

We are a community college district comprised of two accredited colleges, Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC). In addition to serving a large urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, the district provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of Lincoln County.

Both colleges of CCS are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

About the Access Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Disability Access Services (DAS) Director, the DAS Coordinator helps current and potential students at the front desk of the DAS office. This position coordinates approved accommodations throughout the student life cycle.

The work assigned may include helping students start their application, responding to inquiries about services from potential students, providing accommodation services, and ensuring SFCC is aligned and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Reauthorized Rehabilitation Act.

This is an onsite position based out of Spokane, WA on the SFCC campus.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide front office coverage and assist with general office operations. Greet visitors and answer questions in person, by email, phone, and video. Schedule students for testing or appointments with staff, problem solve, assist with record keeping, and communicate with other departments as needed. *
  • Coordinate requests for ergonomic furniture and equipment including placement, maintenance, and cleaning. Maintain documents related to inventory management. *
  • Assist with the application and onboarding processes for students requesting DAS services. Participate in program orientations, outreach, and onboarding activities to support students with disabilities and promote inclusion on campus. *
  • Coordinate the annual communication plan and other messages for students using a variety of tools, including specialized databases and customer relationship management software. *
  • Maintain records and files including departmental statistics and student files. Maintain confidential and appropriate records by documenting communication with and regarding students. *
  • Help maintain disability awareness information and resources on the website for faculty and staff. These resources are meant to promote enhanced disability inclusion, community awareness, and retention for students with disabilities. Check the accessibility of documents posted to the site and submit tickets to IT as needed. Answer chatbot questions as assigned. *
  • Support DAS staff members and students to implement accommodations as assigned. *
  • Conduct DAS presentations and other outreach activities as assigned. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Experience with computers and computer software, e.g., spreadsheets, databases, word processing, web browsers, and email.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain student relationships.
  • Ability to interpret rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience or education demonstrating ability to record, compile, and maintain statistical reports.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and teach new computer applications/technology on an ongoing basis.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the legal requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA.
  • Awareness and familiarity with appropriate accommodations for a variety of disabilities, particularly for students in post-secondary education.
  • Experience with student management systems (e.g., PeopleSoft).
  • Experience working with information technology, assistive technology applications and devices, student learning platforms, and assistive/adaptive technology solutions for students with cognitive, visual, or other disabilities.
  • Experience working in a Disability Access Services role in a postsecondary institution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in a semi-open office environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
  • Work is sedentary.
  • Frequent use of computers.
  • Work directly with students/clients.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and reaching.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent need for oral and auditory communication.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Cyclic schedule (10 months, 40 hours a week) 
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • 6-month probationary period.
  • May be required to work alternate shifts to cover evening outreach events.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership is optional.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1) day per month, upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.
